Artwork Care

Proper care will ensure your oil painting remains beautiful for generations. Follow these guidelines to protect your investment.

Display Environment

Hang your artwork in a climate-controlled environment. Ideal conditions are temperatures between 18-24°C and relative humidity of 40-60%. Avoid displaying paintings in bathrooms, kitchens, or areas with high humidity or temperature fluctuations.

Lighting Considerations

Protect your painting from direct sunlight, which can cause fading over time. Use UV-filtering glass if framing, and consider LED lighting for illumination as it produces minimal heat and UV radiation.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Dust your painting regularly using a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a soft-bristled brush. Never use water, cleaning solutions, or commercial cleaning products on the painted surface. If your painting requires deeper cleaning, consult a professional art conservator.

Handling

Always handle paintings with clean, dry hands or cotton gloves. Support the frame from both sides when moving, and avoid touching the painted surface. When transporting, protect the painting with acid-free paper or bubble wrap.

Storage

If storing your painting, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Store paintings vertically, never stacked flat on top of each other. Use acid-free materials for wrapping and support.

Varnishing

Our paintings are finished with a protective varnish layer. This varnish may be cleaned by a professional conservator if necessary. Do not attempt to varnish or apply any coatings yourself.

Framing

Professional framing with archival materials will protect your artwork. Use acid-free backing and matting, and ensure the frame provides adequate support. Allow for air circulation behind the canvas to prevent moisture buildup.

When to Seek Professional Help

Contact a professional art conservator if you notice cracking, flaking paint, mold, or significant discoloration. Attempting repairs yourself can cause irreversible damage.
